Riya's journey reflects courage, resilience and a determination to create a different path for herself. Challenging social stereotypes and conventional livelihood expectations often associated with the hijra and transgender community, she pursued professional courses in beautician and make-up artistry from reputed institutions. Through her skills and determination, she has established herself professionally and become an inspiration for others seeking dignified and independent livelihoods.
As a Board Member of Jeevika, Riya actively contributes to community empowerment by sharing her professional skills and training LGBTQ+ community members and underprivileged girls in beautician and make-up skills. She believes vocational education and skill development can create pathways to financial independence, confidence and mainstream opportunities.
Riya is committed to encouraging community members to explore education, skills and careers beyond traditional stereotypes and pursue their aspirations with dignity and confidence. She hopes to contribute towards building a more inclusive, skilled, equitable and progressive society and country.
